The Olive People

Romesco the olive people are delighted to announce that they have relocated from Mooi River to the outskirts of Howick, right next door to Sutherlands at the Midmar / Howick off ramp in a shiny new factory. (watch out on the N3 for the sign on the building)

Romesco is an innovative company run by a bunch of food lovers. They specialise in marinating kalamata and green olives in extra virgin olive oil to different recipes - 26 of them. Firm favourites are the tangy kalamata, smoked campfire, herby greek moussaka, lemony tajine and the wonderful stuffed olives with feta, garlic, almond and lemon. They also make the amazing Catalonia pepper sauce called Romesco that gave its name to the business.

The famous plump kalamata olives are grown in South Africa as well as being imported from Kalamata in the peloponnese. - We only ever use kalamata - said Claire the founder of the company - we adore the bitter chocolatey taste and they are the finest table olive in the world. The very grassy extra virgin olive oil is pressed in the Cape exclusively for romesco and recently won a top award for one of the finest oils in South Africa.

All the manufacturing takes place here in the cool Midlands where they have a a shop filled with the different olives, tapenades, sauces and oil.

Look out for the signboards directing you to the Midlands Business Estate.

[post_content] => The Karkloof Conservation Centre is a unique and exciting joint venture between the Karkloof Conservancy, The Wildlands Conservation Trust, SAPPI, Birdlife SA and the Southern KZN Birding Route. This Centre is run by members of the local community, represented by the Karkloof Conservancy.

The area is rich in biodiversity and has much to offer. All three Crane species, and many other interesting birds visit the wetlands and dams near the bird hides on a regular basis. There are also a few antelope species, serval, caracal, mongooses, otters, and abundant frog and insect life.

The public can enjoy the true splendor of the Karkloof wetlands from a comfortable seat in a beautiful bird hide where one really feels part of the natural surroundings.

This project is an exemplary example of how high tech agriculture, conservation and tourism can coexist harmoniously without disturbing ecology.

The office is open weekdays from 8:00 to 16:00. An honesty box is in place for weekends, the early bird twitchers and wise old owls who enjoy sundowners.

There is an entrance fee of R25 per adult, R15 per child (children under five years get in for free). Every Friday pensioners only pay R15.

Please make a booking for larger group visits, functions and if you would like to make use of our braai facilities.

Each year, the Midmar Mile swimming race is held there, which organizers call "the world's largest open water swimming event". Over 20,000 entries were received for the 2009 event. Midmar Dam is located in the Midlands of KwaZulu-Natal. The dam's primary purpose is to serve for municipal and industrial use and its hazard potential has been ranked high (3). Morgenzon has camping and caravanning sites, both powered and non-powered, and Eikedal and Blackhurst Peninsula (start of the Midmar Mile) are both stunning picnic areas. The dam also hosts a yacht club, and lock up storage facilities for boats. No matter what time of year one visits the dam, it is essential to have clothing/gear for both hot and cold weather - the weather changes are rapid, and do not always correspond with the weather in the surrounding area. Midmar Dam is easily accessible from the N3 motorway. The celebrated golf course architect Robert Grimsdell was commissioned to design and lay out Barlow's own nine-hole course on his farm in the Natal Midlands. The first shot on Bosch Hoek was played in 1963, and thereafter for thirty years the club remained in the private domain of Barlow and his friends. After Barlow died in 1979, his stepson Peter Gallo acquired the farm and continued to maintain the golf course as a private facility. In 1990, Gallo formed the Bosch Hoek Golf Club and Country Estate and sometime later sold the development to the homeowners of the estate, who in turn sold the golf course to the current owner, South African entrepreneur, Ivan Clark. The Bosch Hoek course has the advantage of being surrounded by glorious countryside, and the residential estate, wisely restricted to only 35 properties, is positioned well away from the playing areas. This is a beautiful country course with loads of charm, and the ideal place for a relaxing game of golf in peaceful surroundings. During the months of March through May, Bosch Hoek, with its deciduous Oaks, Pin Oaks, Liquid Ambers and Plane Trees lining the fairways, transforms into a blaze of Autumn splendor. The quaint clubhouse, tastefully decorated with a blend of modern and historic period pieces, is alluring during the Winter months, in front of the fireplace, many a good book and fine wine can be enjoyed in the company of its welcoming members. The property also boasts a highly regarded equine hospital, offering state-of-the-art facilities. Bosch Hoek is a hidden treasure, one of those enduring classics that has remained faithful to its original design, and hopefully will be preserved so for generations to come.   [post_title] => Bosch Hoek Golf Club [post_excerpt] => [post_status] => publish [comment_status] => open [ping_status] => closed [post_password] => [post_name] => bosch-hoek-golf-club [to_ping] => [pinged] => [post_modified] => 2018-06-20 14:33:44 [post_modified_gmt] => 2018-06-20 12:33:44 [post_content_filtered] => [post_parent] => 0 [guid] => http://midlandsmeander.co.za/?post_type=ait-item&p=5470 [menu_order] => 0 [post_type] => ait-item [post_mime_type] => [comment_count] => 0 [filter] => raw ) [9] => WP_Post Object ( [ID] => 5480 [post_author] => 7 [post_date] => 2017-12-13 10:07:30 [post_date_gmt] => 2017-12-13 10:07:30 [post_content] => Manufacturers of Hammocks and swinging outdoor furniture. Customisable hammock designs and colours, with an African arts and crafts feel. Order online or contact us for a quote. Unique to Heavenly Hammocks is our extensive range of crush dyed indoor and outdoor hanging furniture. Because we dye our fabrics by hand we can produce any shade you require to blend in with your own particular colour scheme at home. The crushdyed technique we use brings about a two tone or mottled finish to the canvas, which is what sets us apart from all other markers of hanging leisure furniture. We take pride in the superb quality of our hammocks thereby ensuring that they will last you a very long time. The canvas we use is made from 100 percent pure cotton, making our hammocks extremely cool and comfortable to relax in. At the same time they are very durable because we only use a tightly woven, boxweave canvas so the fabric will never stretch or weaken. In addition we insert steel thimbles at each end of the hammock thereby preventing any loosening of the ropes which can so easily occur as a result of the constant friction caused by a rope or a carabine hook. Our Promise Our hammocks have the style, the strength as well as the comfort needed to guarantee you lifelong luxury.
