[post_content] => Cleopatra is a gourmet getaway tucked deep into the KwaZulu-Natal  Drakensberg Mountains surrounded by the Giants Castle Nature Reserve.  Beautifully situated on the edge of a trout filled dam, alongside the Little Mooi River, the soaring mountains rise majestically from the bottom of the garden.

Individually decorated, the eleven rooms at Cleopatra are fast becoming world renowned for the innovative and creative decor. Each room has a theme and is filled with many articles pertaining to the colour scheme and theme. All rooms have a warm, snug bed with down duvets and pillows, fresh crisp, cotton sheets and mohair blankets. All have en suite bathrooms, TV, tea and coffee making facilities, mini bars, heaters, fans and warm towel rails. All have spectacular views. The comfort, peace and tranquility is untarnished by people and create memories that will take a lifetime to fade.

A friendly dining room filled with interesting artifacts and a large crackling fireplace invites you to enjoy a world-class meal lovingly prepared by Richard Poynton (recently awarded a 5 star chef status) and his team.  Passion and patience goes into the preparation of every dish with flavour paramount.  Menus change daily and local, imported and homegrown ingredients are used at their peak and a stroll through the vegetable and herb gardens will attest to this. A place in the country becomes a natural magnet to people who want to savour the flavours of home grown vegetables, farm fresh dairy products and home cured hams. The passion and patience that goes into the preparation of food is reflected in the tastes and textures.

I work from our home which I share with my husband, Colin Bargen and our beautiful son Tom.  We are fortunate to be living in this incredible environment in Nottingham Road, which is in the heart of the midlands, surrounded by family, animals and vast amounts of space - much to the envy of the "city-slicker".

Karl Blossfeldt's (1865 - 1932) photography has been an endless source of wonder to me. The "seed was planted" when Neville Trickett presented Blossfeldt' book of botanical photographs to me to see what I could do with it.  The black & white photographs of flowers, buds and seed capsules leant themselves to the white clay that I had been working with.

I draw inspiration from Blossfeldt's juxtaposition of symmetry & abstraction, simplicity & complexity, interpreting the imagery into monumental monochromatic forms which I hope have a timeless & universal appeal.  It's a constant challenge to manipulate the weightiness & elasticity of clay into the twisting delicate shapes of the botanical world.  I am constantly excited by the infinite possibilities & ideas to be found in nature......... I spend a lot of time in our garden!

[post_content] => Marrakesh Cheese Farm is situated in Rosetta, between Nottingham Road and Mooi River. It is owned and run by Chris and Sue Coetzer. Cheese making on the farm began in 1998, when it was a goats cheese outlet in the Midlands.

We introduced some cows milk cheeses over the years, and in November 2010 we sold our goats and moved on to making and selling only cows milk cheese.

The cheese is sold only from our farm shop. We have no other permanent outlets for our product, other than the Saturday Morning Karkloof Farmers Market just outside Howick, where we have been regular stall holders since it opened in 2007.

Visitors to the farm can expect to be taken through a tasting of between 8 to 10 different types of cheese, (depending on the time of year) with an informative discussion about each type of cheese.

Marrakesh cheeses are made using vegetarian rennet instead of animal rennet. This makes our cheese acceptably Halaal and Kosher for many people.

Our products contain no stabilisers, preservatives, flavourants or colourants. The milk is not pasteurised prior to the cheese making process. These points allow us to make a very natural, healthy and tasty range of cheese.

The range of cheese made includes Cottage cheese, a Brie styled cheese called White and Blue, Feta, Chevin , Chabrie, Gouda , Parmesan, Pecorino and Gorgonzola. From time to time we have mature Cheddar, smoked Cheddar and Gruyere, but these are not always in stock.

We also make and sell a range of seasonal jams, marmalades and chutney.

Jolo Guest Farm is a working beef farm situated within easy reach of the N3 motorway 450 kilometers from Johannesburg and 150 kilometers from Durban. It is close to Michaelhouse, Treverton, Weston College, Clifton, Hilton College and St Annes schools.

Jolo Guest Farm is in middle of the famous Arts & Crafts route, The Midlands Meander. There are presently over 140 members of the Meander.

Rosetta was an integral part of the Colonial farm pioneering boom of the mid to late 1800s.  Its future looked more secure in 1895 when Natal authorities built the Meshlyn Bridge and finally secured a place on the map a year later with construction of its still standing hotel. The Zulu and Boer wars battlefield sites and museums are a significant attraction and are situated close by.
