[post_content] => Come and experience the beauty, luxury and freedom that the Drakensberg has to offer at Silver Hill Lodge. Wake up in a four star lodge with cosy rooms and the mountains as your wallpaper. The lodge has recently undergone a makeover and there is an enthusiastic and energetic team that goes out of its way to make sure your experience is a special one.  The three course dinners are delicious and beautifully presented and the breakfast menu will ensure that every palate is satisfied. There is also a light lunch menu as well as a picnic menu for midday enjoyment.

If adventure is your calling then this approximately 800 hectare estate of untouched berg will fulfill the senses. We offer guided quad biking through the mountains to unseen places. While on the hiking trails it is not uncommon to see the rare Bearded Vultures that nest on the cliffs above as well as a variety of antelope, birdlife and flora.  For the children there is a big lawn for soccer, a trampoline, jungle gym, swimming pool and horses who love carrots.

If you have specific dietary requirements or are intolerant to gluten or dairy we cater for your needs. Upon booking your needs are accounted for. If you have a special occasion like a wedding, birthday or a conference this is also the perfect venue.

Enjoy locally sourced coffee, craft beer and cheeses that are served in a pub that is always warmed by a log fire. Alternatively, enjoy a fine glass of wine with your dinner while a big log fire crackles and warms the dining room.

All this can be enjoyed at the affordable price of R950.00 per person per night during the week and R1250.00 over weekends, public holidays and peak holiday season. Weekend starts 2pm Friday and ends 10am Monday. This rate includes a three-course dinner, your luxurious sleeping quarters and a full English or Health breakfast.

Silver Hill Lodge truly is a place to getaway or get together. It’s where luxury, freedom and pristine nature meet at an affordable price. It’s a photographers dream come true.

[post_content] => This well established Country House dating back to the 1930s is situated on a magnificent Nature Estate of 1400 hectares. It nestles in a secluded amphitheatre in the foothills of the majestic Drakensberg and is a sanctuary for all who visit.

The Nature Reserve has 5 eco-systems, including indigenous forest, grassland, riverine, mountain and pine forest, which showcase the areas rich diversity of flowers, animals, and bird life. The nurturing environment has attracted the return of many of the species that once roamed the region, including Oribi, Rietbuck, Bushbuck, Bushpig, Antbear, Leopard, Serval, Caracal, Baboon and Eland.

This stretch of the Mooi River is highly regarded by fly fishermen who enjoy challenging the Wild Brown Trout that have been here since the 1870s. There are 6 well stocked Stillwater Dams.

Other activities include walking, mountain biking and bird watching.
The evenings are a time to relax on the terrace overlooking the river or in front of a roaring log fire in the cozy Ingwenya Pub. This can be followed with the enjoyment of fine country dining in our gracious dining room.

The climate of The Bend has year round attraction with distinct differences between the 4 seasons: the fresh green of Spring, followed by lush summer, then mellow Autumn with its rich colours and finally the crisp winter days with the occasional excitement of snow.

The Bend Country House has welcomed guests since 1994 and has provided the setting for many memorable weddings and celebrations. We look forward to seeing you soon.

                    [post_content] => By Appointment only :

I work from our home which I share with my husband, Colin Bargen and our beautiful son Tom.  We are fortunate to be living in this incredible environment in Nottingham Road, which is in the heart of the midlands, surrounded by family, animals and vast amounts of space - much to the envy of the "city-slicker".

Karl Blossfeldt's (1865 - 1932) photography has been an endless source of wonder to me. The "seed was planted" when Neville Trickett presented Blossfeldt' book of botanical photographs to me to see what I could do with it.  The black & white photographs of flowers, buds and seed capsules leant themselves to the white clay that I had been working with.

I draw inspiration from Blossfeldt's juxtaposition of symmetry & abstraction, simplicity & complexity, interpreting the imagery into monumental monochromatic forms which I hope have a timeless & universal appeal.  It's a constant challenge to manipulate the weightiness & elasticity of clay into the twisting delicate shapes of the botanical world.  I am constantly excited by the infinite possibilities & ideas to be found in nature......... I spend a lot of time in our garden!

[post_content] => Marrakesh Cheese Farm is situated in Rosetta, between Nottingham Road and Mooi River. It is owned and run by Chris and Sue Coetzer. Cheese making on the farm began in 1998, when it was a goats cheese outlet in the Midlands.

We introduced some cows milk cheeses over the years, and in November 2010 we sold our goats and moved on to making and selling only cows milk cheese.

The cheese is sold only from our farm shop. We have no other permanent outlets for our product, other than the Saturday Morning Karkloof Farmers Market just outside Howick, where we have been regular stall holders since it opened in 2007.

Visitors to the farm can expect to be taken through a tasting of between 8 to 10 different types of cheese, (depending on the time of year) with an informative discussion about each type of cheese.

Marrakesh cheeses are made using vegetarian rennet instead of animal rennet. This makes our cheese acceptably Halaal and Kosher for many people.

Our products contain no stabilisers, preservatives, flavourants or colourants. The milk is not pasteurised prior to the cheese making process. These points allow us to make a very natural, healthy and tasty range of cheese.

The range of cheese made includes Cottage cheese, a Brie styled cheese called White and Blue, Feta, Chevin , Chabrie, Gouda , Parmesan, Pecorino and Gorgonzola. From time to time we have mature Cheddar, smoked Cheddar and Gruyere, but these are not always in stock.

We also make and sell a range of seasonal jams, marmalades and chutney.

[post_content] => I have been living and painting in the Midlands , with my husband, Greg, and my children, for the last ten years. Prior to that, we lived in Gauteng.  I just love the Midlands and a lot of the subject matter around me is reflected in my paintings. Especially the cattle, Nguni being my favourite.
Two years ago,.Greg and I bought the Old Mill in Rosetta, which is our home and where I work from. We are slowly renovating the building and are hoping to restore it to its former glory and also make it home to a creative hub of sorts. In the meantime, come and visit me in my  studio and see my paintings.
I work mainly in oils, but also enjoy mixed media and pencil drawing. I am happy to take on commissions and am very versatile with subject matter and medium. But as I mentioned earlier my love is of the Midlands and its creatures that surround me. Phone me if you are in the area, I would love to meet you.

We have a swimming pool with a wooden deck overlooking the river, a lapa with BBQ facilities, which are available for guest use and comfort.  There are abundant wildlife species, which move freely through all the properties in the region - so be on the lookout for buck, mongoose, porcupines and otters.

The birdlife is also prolific - we have a couple of resident Paradise Flycatchers and have frequent visits from the Brown Eagle as well as the Hammerkop. We also have a pair of resident Gymnagenes.

In the area - golf courses, horseriding, forest canopy tours, hot-air ballooning, sightseeing, shopping, fantastic restaurants and pubs, the Drakensberg nearby ... and much, much more!!
