3 Insta-Ready Photography Spots in Midlands Meander

Leave the hustle and bustle of town life behind and spend a day meandering through the countryside, enjoying the stunning scenery and exploring the hidden gems you can find along one of the many different routes. From fun activities to delicious food, unique craft stores and plenty of insta-worthy midlands meander photography spots, it is bound to be a day to remember.

3 Midlands Meander Instagram Spots

With so many stunning spots, this was a tough call to make. However, these are 3 of our favourite spots along the way.

1. The Nelson Mandela Capture Site

Visiting this site is a must for any meanders. Besides being an important site in South Africa’s history, it is also an amazing place to take photographs. Nelson Mandela was arrested at the site on August 1952 and, since then, the site has been transformed into a historian’s dream. With a small warehouse holding extensive Mandela trivia, visitors can lose themselves in the story of Mandela’s life, however, the ‘Long Walk to Freedom’ path down to the art monument is the real show-stopper here. Created by Jenny Rose and Marco Cianfanelli, the monument is made up of 50 steel rods, ranging from 6m-9.5m, and when view from the correct angle, displays the face of the former president. The face shows up more clearly in a picture, so have fun finding the perfect angle and pay tribute to your country’s history on your Instagram page.

2. Florentines Belgian Chocolate Shop

This cute little shop is one of the first after turning off the highway in Howick. Chocolate dipping always makes for a great Instagram picture, so pick your favourite chocolate/food combination and enjoy! A popular choice for those looking to take some insta-worthy snaps are chocolate dipped waffles or ice-cream. The outside of the shop is a perfect background and, after the pictures are out the way, you get to indulge in the most divine Belgian chocolate!

3. Swissland Cheese

After a busy day of hunting down the best photo spots, Swissland Cheese is the perfect place to unwind. On arrival, pick out some freshly made cheese and an alcoholic or non-alcoholic beverage. At check-out, you will be given a picnic basket with a knife, a cutting board (there are also wine glasses if you have opted for wine) and a picnic blanket to set-up in the stunning garden overlooking farmlands and goats. Once your picnic is all set up, the scenery and simplicity make for a stunning picture we can guarantee your followers will love.

These are only three of the hundreds of Instagram-worthy spots you can have fun finding along the way. Get your meander guide here and have fun exploring the crafts and art that is unique to our beautiful country. Plan your route today and make your Instagram feed the envy of your friends.
