[post_content] => A visit to Sue Tarrs Summerhouse at Folly Hill will transport you into another world. Situated not far from Hilton Village on a smallholding, Sue has created a tranquil, country retreat in which you can escape. The Summerhouse used to be an old milking parlour and many Winterskloof residents used to walk to Folly Hill to fetch their milk. The old milking pens and feeding troughs provide a backdrop to the carefully arranged displays.

Browse through a wonderful selection of gifts, decor items, selected kitchen and tableware as well as an array of silk flowers. Bring your container with you and have your silk flowers arranged.

We are Lou Harvey stockists, carry a selection of Nguni skins from northern Natal and a range of Thokomala hand crocheted blankets, scarves and beanies, made by a rural KwaZulu-Natal community.

The nursery specialises in old fashioned plants and perennials for the garden and has a wide selection of plants and roses suitable for a cold climate.

The old calf pens are now a cosy rustic restaurant, La Popote. Enjoy a lazy breakfast or lunch under the trees or tuck into bowls of hot soup in front of a fire on chilly days.

The Olive People

Romesco the olive people are delighted to announce that they have relocated from Mooi River to the outskirts of Howick, right next door to Sutherlands at the Midmar / Howick off ramp in a shiny new factory. (watch out on the N3 for the sign on the building)

Romesco is an innovative company run by a bunch of food lovers. They specialise in marinating kalamata and green olives in extra virgin olive oil to different recipes - 26 of them. Firm favourites are the tangy kalamata, smoked campfire, herby greek moussaka, lemony tajine and the wonderful stuffed olives with feta, garlic, almond and lemon. They also make the amazing Catalonia pepper sauce called Romesco that gave its name to the business.

The famous plump kalamata olives are grown in South Africa as well as being imported from Kalamata in the peloponnese. - We only ever use kalamata - says Claire the founder of the company - we adore the bitter chocolatey taste and they are the finest table olive in the world. The very grassy extra virgin olive oil is pressed in the Cape exclusively for romesco and recently won a top award for one of the finest oils in South Africa.

All the manufacturing takes place here in the cool Midlands where they have a a shop filled with the different olives, tapenades, sauces and oil.

Come and see for yourselves; Claire will be there to explain all things olivey and of course you will be able to taste the delicious recipes.

Look out for the signboards directing you to the Midlands Business Estate.

[post_content] => Situated in the Midlands of KwaZulu-Natal, Bosch Hoek Golf Club was first acquired by the legendary industrialist "Punch" Barlow.

The celebrated golf course architect Robert Grimsdell was commissioned to design and lay out Barlow's own nine-hole course on his farm in the Natal Midlands.

The first shot on Bosch Hoek was played in 1963, and thereafter for thirty years the club remained in the private domain of Barlow and his friends.

After Barlow died in 1979, his stepson Peter Gallo acquired the farm and continued to maintain the golf course as a private facility.

In 1990, Gallo formed the Bosch Hoek Golf Club and Country Estate and sometime later sold the development to the homeowners of the estate, who in turn sold the golf course to the current owner, South African entrepreneur, Ivan Clark.

The Bosch Hoek course has the advantage of being surrounded by glorious countryside, and the residential estate, wisely restricted to only 35 properties, is positioned well away from the playing areas. This is a beautiful country course with loads of charm, and the ideal place for a relaxing game of golf in peaceful surroundings.

During the months of March through May, Bosch Hoek, with its deciduous Oaks, Pin Oaks, Liquid Ambers and Plane Trees lining the fairways, transforms into a blaze of Autumn splendor.

The quaint clubhouse, tastefully decorated with a blend of modern and historic period pieces, is alluring during the Winter months, in front of the fireplace, many a good book and fine wine can be enjoyed in the company of its welcoming members.

The property also boasts a highly regarded equine hospital, offering state-of-the-art facilities.

Bosch Hoek is a hidden treasure, one of those enduring classics that has remained faithful to its original design, and hopefully will be preserved so for generations to come.
