[post_content] => The Karkloof Conservation Centre is a unique and exciting joint venture between the Karkloof Conservancy, The Wildlands Conservation Trust, SAPPI, Birdlife SA and the Southern KZN Birding Route. This Centre is run by members of the local community, represented by the Karkloof Conservancy.

The area is rich in biodiversity and has much to offer. All three Crane species, and many other interesting birds visit the wetlands and dams near the bird hides on a regular basis. There are also a few antelope species, serval, caracal, mongooses, otters, and abundant frog and insect life.

The public can enjoy the true splendour of the Karkloof wetlands from a comfortable seat in a beautiful bird hide where one really feels part of the natural surroundings.

This project is an exemplary example of how high tech agriculture, conservation and tourism can coexist harmoniously without disturbing ecology.

The office is open weekdays from 8:00 to 16:00. An honesty box is in place for weekends, the early bird twitchers and wise old owls who enjoy sundowners.

There is an entrance fee of R25 per adult, R15 per child (children under five years get in for free). Every Friday pensioners only pay R15.

Please make a booking for larger group visits, functions and if you would like to make use of our braai facilities.

[post_content] => There is something deeply special about indigenous forests. The lush luminosity of life played out in near-perpetual shade, the warm dank scent of sweaty growth and languorous decay. Everyday from 08h00 - 16h00 the second largest indigenous forest in South Africa situated at Karkloof 18 kms inland from Howick comes alive with people of all ages and sizes experiencing a true Tarzan and Jane Adventure, on slides of up to 200m long which take them amongst the birds, monkeys, trees and plants of this magnificent forest.

The system has been designed and constructed by a civil engineer.During the tour two or more trained guides ensure the safety of each group while describing interesting facts about the ecology and life in the forest.

The experience starts with a briefing session at the Karkloof Canopy Tour base camp. You will also be kitted out with your harness, safety helmet and sliding glove where opportunity would be given to ask your guides questions. Should you wish, the option to go tandem with one of your qualified guides is an option open to all, he then becomes your ABS brakes and all you do is enjoy the ride. After briefing you will be taken up the mountain in a 4x4 with a short 60m walk to the first platform.

Can I do this?
Of course the answer is a resounding YES! This is for everyone with a sense of adventure and a love of beauty should come and experience our Tarzan & Jane Adventure. Ideal for team building, childrens parties, anniversaries and wooing of friend and foe!

Each year, the Midmar Mile swimming race is held there, which organizers call "the world's largest open water swimming event". Over 20,000 entries were received for the 2009 event. Midmar Dam is located in the Midlands of KwaZulu-Natal. The dam's primary purpose is to serve for municipal and industrial use and its hazard potential has been ranked high (3). Morgenzon has camping and caravanning sites, both powered and non-powered, and Eikedal and Blackhurst Peninsula (start of the Midmar Mile) are both stunning picnic areas. The dam also hosts a yacht club, and lock up storage facilities for boats. No matter what time of year one visits the dam, it is essential to have clothing/gear for both hot and cold weather - the weather changes are rapid, and do not always correspond with the weather in the surrounding area. Midmar Dam is easily accessible from the N3 motorway. The celebrated golf course architect Robert Grimsdell was commissioned to design and lay out Barlow's own nine-hole course on his farm in the Natal Midlands. The first shot on Bosch Hoek was played in 1963, and thereafter for thirty years the club remained in the private domain of Barlow and his friends. After Barlow died in 1979, his stepson Peter Gallo acquired the farm and continued to maintain the golf course as a private facility. In 1990, Gallo formed the Bosch Hoek Golf Club and Country Estate and sometime later sold the development to the homeowners of the estate, who in turn sold the golf course to the current owner, South African entrepreneur, Ivan Clark. The Bosch Hoek course has the advantage of being surrounded by glorious countryside, and the residential estate, wisely restricted to only 35 properties, is positioned well away from the playing areas. This is a beautiful country course with loads of charm, and the ideal place for a relaxing game of golf in peaceful surroundings. During the months of March through May, Bosch Hoek, with its deciduous Oaks, Pin Oaks, Liquid Ambers and Plane Trees lining the fairways, transforms into a blaze of Autumn splendor. The quaint clubhouse, tastefully decorated with a blend of modern and historic period pieces, is alluring during the Winter months, in front of the fireplace, many a good book and fine wine can be enjoyed in the company of its welcoming members. The property also boasts a highly regarded equine hospital, offering state-of-the-art facilities. Bosch Hoek is a hidden treasure, one of those enduring classics that has remained faithful to its original design, and hopefully will be preserved so for generations to come.   [post_title] => Bosch Hoek Golf Club [post_excerpt] => [post_status] => publish [comment_status] => open [ping_status] => closed [post_password] => [post_name] => bosch-hoek-golf-club [to_ping] => [pinged] => [post_modified] => 2018-01-22 09:08:54 [post_modified_gmt] => 2018-01-22 09:08:54 [post_content_filtered] => [post_parent] => 0 [guid] => http://midlandsmeander.co.za/?post_type=ait-item&p=5470 [menu_order] => 0 [post_type] => ait-item [post_mime_type] => [comment_count] => 0 [filter] => raw ) [7] => WP_Post Object ( [ID] => 5544 [post_author] => 7 [post_date] => 2018-01-03 07:48:46 [post_date_gmt] => 2018-01-03 07:48:46 [post_content] => Checkpoint 103 Activity Hub in the KZN Midlands is the perfect entertainment venue for some active fun with family and friends of all ages.
