Courses and Workshops ON THE MEANDER

The Midlands Meander is home to a diverse range of talented artists and crafters, many of whom offer workshops and courses that allow you to take home some Meander mastery for yourself.

A kiln of creativity can be found at Aladdin’s-de-Light, with workshops in pottery, raku and stained glass. Aladdin’s also offers classes in which you can create tiles, decoupage, hand-painted glass, dipped candles, mosaics, and even wash basins.

Two of our Midlands Meander members offer fun and flair with flames. Dragonfire Beads offers fun and flair with flames, you can learn to make your own colourful, handmade beads from Venetian glass using a flame torch; a technique called lampwork. Combined with sterling silver and other metals, these beads make beautiful necklaces, earrings, bracelets and adornments for assorted cutlery items.

Sterling’s Wrought Iron offers a beginner’s course in basic wrought iron and metal work. Courses are run by Guy Sterling, who has 20 years’ experience in this field. With techniques of welding, traditional blacksmithing, forging and basic metalwork, you can make several different items including candlesticks, coat racks, fire pokers, fruit bowls, magazine racks or log holders.

The Midlands Meander is famous for its foodie delights. Learn how to make your own cheese the simple way at Marrakesh Cheese. These healthy, natural cheeses are free from stabilisers, preservatives, flavourants or colourants; not to mention downright delicious!

Peter’s Gate Herbal Centre also offers you the opportunity to make your own all-natural products. Monthly workshops at Peter’s Gate teach you how to use herbs to make delectable culinary ingredients, soaps, cosmetics, home remedies and household products. Workshops include teas, lunch, products and notes.
