HORSEPLAY
A Horse Whispering Experience for everyone! (Strictly No Horse Riding Offered)
Ever wanted to have contact with horses, but outrides seem scary? Ever wondered what it would be like to have a horse as a friend for a day? To have a horse connect with you and bring out the hidden horseman in you? Before you are even on his back? Kilgobbin Friesian Stud invites you to find that horseman within you…..come spend a morning playing with magnificent Friesian horses and learn more than just horse sense!
At Old Kilgobbin farm in the KwaZulu Natal Midlands, Dargle Valley, you will be introduced to natural horsemanship. Here, over the course of three to four hours, you will acquire the basic knowledge and skills required for engaging with horses on the ground, rather than on their backs.
Your first task could be to lead the horse allocated to you in a figure of eight around two of the barrels in a paddock that resembles a giant playground. As you soon realize, no amount of tugging and pulling, or whispering for that matter, is going to get a suspicious 600 kg Friesian to do your bidding. By the end of the training, you will be standing in the centre of an arena with your horse “at liberty” (without halter), successfully instructing it to circle, stop, change direction, come to the centre, walk backwards to the perimeter and circle again, using only body movement and gesture.
In the few intervening hours, you will learn that communicating with horses (rather than coercing them) has got nothing to do with whispering and everything to do with horseplay!
Not just for horse lovers! Takkies, sunscreen and a sense of fun is all that is required!
Held most days at Old Kilgobbin Farm, no12, D707, Dargle, KZN. Booking is essential. Small private groups as well as larger corporate groups are catered for.
Please note no children under 12 unless discussed with management and no outrides offered.
